4 Days of Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda
-
Your guide meets you at Entebbe International Airport for a private transfer to your hotel.
-
A scheduled flight to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrip, depending on which sector of the park your permits are for, followed by a transfer to your lodge at the forest edge. Bwindi is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Africa's oldest and most biodiverse rainforests — it has survived ice ages and climate shifts that cleared most of the surrounding landscape, which is part of why it still holds what it holds. The afternoon is for settling in and understanding where you are before tomorrow.
-
A morning briefing with your ranger guides covers what to expect and how to behave in the presence of a wild gorilla family — the protocols exist for the gorillas' protection as much as yours. The trek through the forest takes anywhere from one hour to most of the day depending on where the habituated family has moved overnight. When you find them, you have one hour. It is, by consistent and near-universal account, one of the more affecting wildlife experiences available anywhere on earth. Mountain gorillas share around 98% of human DNA and the recognition in a sustained moment of eye contact is not something that translates well into description. The afternoon back at the lodge is for processing it.

The flight back to Entebbe and head home.
