Best Time to Travel:

While the summer is the best time to visit, it can sometimes be hard to make accommodations, as it is their peak season for visitors. September is an excellent month to visit because most everything is in season and the tourists have all gone back to work. The Adriatic Sea is still comfortable to swim in during September, as well. This is prime hiking and camping weather.

Suggested Itineraries:

A visit to Predjama Castle is a must while in Slovenia. Not only is it built into the side of a cavern, but also plays hosts to a huge network of galleries. And every July the castle hosts the Erasmus Tournament; a day of medieval dueling, jousting and archery.

The capital, Ljublijana, is ideal for those who love the city. There is a lively city center, as well as many museums and theaters to visit. This city is adorable, especially at night when the whole city lights up. Visit the castle up on the hill and the flea market that happens every Sunday! You’ll be sure to find some cool stuff to take back with you.

The coastal city of Koper is awesome, especially in September when the tourists have died down and the weather is still warm. Italy’s border is right near by, so a day trip is totally possible if you’re craving pizza.

Extensions:

Hungary is right near Slovenia, so why not spend the weekend in Budapest? Budapest is full of intricate and old world things to see and do. There are many thermal baths, museums, and markets to check out!
